Help to fund our new world class music facility for young people

Drive this transformational journey and help create tomorrow’s leaders…

Why you should help?

“At World Heart Beat, ‘disadvantage’ and ‘inequality’ are left at the door – every child is valued, regardless of background. We see young faces light up as music transforms their lives and, with increasing reduction in music provision in schools, the need for our charity is greater than ever. With your support, we can unlock the creativity and confidence of thousands more young people.”

  • We’ve been awarded a building in the prestigious new Embassy Gardens development at Nine Elms

A fantastic opportunity to create a centre of excellence and an extremely valuable community hub in one of London’s top regeneration projects. But a building is just a building… we need to make it come alive.

  • Embassy Gardens at Nine Elms, London

Why our students need your money now!

The building is a shell. To fulfil the project and bring hundreds more young people to music, we need to raise £2million. This is to fund everything — from stage lighting to mixing desks; theatre seating to a coffee shop; sound-proofing to sound systems; a triangle to a Steinway…

Play Your Part

  • Community

Playing and learning music together fosters teamwork and friendship in a warm, healthy environment.

  • Passion

Music becomes part of our students’ souls, bringing a passionate sense of purpose.

  • Ambition

The structure, discipline and standards we set, encourage our students to be ambitious and to aim high.

The 51st State Band in concert

The journey so far…

World heart beat has already come a long way

In the year 2000, Sahana Gero MBE started the 51st State Band with just six students. Nine years, plus 130 musicians later, this evolved into the World Heart Beat Music Academy. It took a quantum leap in 2012 with the imaginative renovation of a derelict floor of an industrial unit.

In 2018, enrolment has leapt to over 320 students, there are 18 music programmes led by 37 musicians. We offer 12 genres of music from Asian to vocal through jazz, classical and Gypsy violin and more.

Over 850 students have passed through the academy with an average stay of 4.7 years.

Quality matches quantity. 322 students have passed Trinity and ABRSM examinations, with 100 Distinctions and 148 Merits. Our students have won scholarships to the Royal Academy of Music and to the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston USA.

Some of our top students were chosen to attend GRAMMY Camp in Los Angeles.

Help make it happen
  • As someone who has been involved in the Jazz “business” for almost 40 years, I believe that World Heart Beat fills an extremely important gap in the jazz education of London. They provide an excellent service to young people who would otherwise be unable to afford a specialist music education.

    Founder, 606 Club

  • If it wasn’t for playing music, I wouldn’t be alive. I used to carry a knife, but music changed all that. Playing an instrument is my protection now.

  • World Heart Beat is an unusual place — it stands out as a shining light for how a music academy should be. A real sense of community exists here. With the music and the diversity, it’s teaching so many skills about how to live life.

  • I just wanted to say a massive thanks to you and the whole World Heart Beat family — Berklee College of Music (USA) has given me full scholarship, starting in 2018! I just couldn't have done it without your support and such a wonderful space to rehearse and create.

A quantum leap forward

More opportunities & greater community reach

Whilst retaining our Southfields site, the new building in Nine Elms has three major benefits: Thousands more students will have access to learning music; our teaching capacity will grow by some 200%; and the wider community will benefit from a brand-new 110 seat, fully equipped performance space.

We will bring after-school music tuition and performance opportunities to the young people of the schools and local communities of Stockwell, Vauxhall, Battersea and Nine Elms, all of which have high volumes of social housing.

Help enable 1,000’s more young people to become the very best adults they can be through:

  • Music tuition & mentoring.
  • Music production & recording.
  • Internships & career development.
  • Public performance.
  • Song writing & composition.
  • Radio broadcasting & production.

Increased reach with our new facility

This new centre at Embassy Gardens will extend our community reach to many more thousands of people

This can only become a reality with your support
